Ireland Day 11

Example HR

I stayed at Hillcrest House B&B last night, just near the start of the Ring of Kerry drive. I arrived about 45 minutes before dark and the view from every front window of the house (and they were all huge) was absolutely gorgeous! You could see the outline of the mountains in the distance in a slight blue hugh, and the hills leading up to them were green. It was really nice. The house was totally early 70's. I haven't been in a house quite that decked out in quite some time. The best part was the headboard in the bedroom. It was a double bed with a huge headboard that had built in shelves on the corners and the center was all padded and in the very center had a radio with a cassette player mounted in it. Anyway, the lady told me that the tallest peak that was visible is the tallest peak in Ireland. I wish I had taken some pictures, but I just sat and had my tea and enjoyed the view. After breakfast I drove the Ring of Kerry and took pictures. It rained for about 40% of drive, but the parts where it wasn't raining was absolutely beautiful. I headed to Blarney afterwards and saw the Blarney castle where the blarney stone is. After Blarney, I went to Killarney, which was very dissappointing. It was completely touristy and full of tour busses and tourists. I stopped in one of the pubs and got a fish & chips and there were several drunk americans there (at 2:00 in the afternoon!), so I ate quickly and got out. At the end of the day it was getting dark and I headed out of the city to try to find a room for the night and stopped in a little place called Carrigtwohill. I got lucky and got a room within walking distance of the town center and walked down and got a bite to eat and talked with the locals 'till late.
